Bengal Institute of Technology and Management (BITM)

The Bengal Institute of Technology and Management (BITM) is located in Santiniketan – a place which can be rarely associated with an engineering college. Even the surroundings are far from what you might experience at Jadavpur University or BE College (Shivpur). Seven kilometeres from Bolpur situated as if far from the maddening crowd, BITM may look desolate but once you enter you are in a different world altogether. The 60 acre campus is comprised of canteens, laboratories, gardens, huge buildings and playgrounds.

In spite of its limitations BITM (Shantiniketan) has done quite well where as the infrastructure is concerned. The five computer laboratories and digital communication engineering laboratories, besides chemistry, physics and a host of other labs prove this rightly. According to the authority the best part of the institute is its highly qualified faculty. The quality of students has also improved over the last few years. Although initially under the Visva Bharati affiliation(2001) it had a humble beginning with just 250 students, now under the West Bengal University (2003) in last 4 years BITM has admitted around 900 students in 5 engineering streams.

California Institute of Technology Displaces Harvard As Top Institution: World and Regional Rankings

As is well known, ranking higher education institutions involves so much criteria and data, and even subjectivity and generalization. Ranking therefore is never an exact science; strengths and weaknesses of the colleges are never static, just as are aspects like availability and use of research funding, upgrading, qualities of instructors. Many colleges are slow at revolutionizing their curriculums, while others are rapidly innovative and easily embrace change.

This year, for the first time in a very long time, I recently perused some of the rankings of the universities all over the world. My impetus lies in the newsflash that California Institute of Technology, a powerhouse in Pasadena that is therefore not far-fetched from where I live, has become ranked in Forbes magazine as the top research university in the world. California very much remains a flagship state, despite the economic woes and the “spoiled brat” image of Californians. There is a latent, sometimes blatant “East Coast-West Coast” rivalry among Americans, that the displacement of Harvard by “Caltech” as the leading academic institution in the world is cause for Californians to roar it into the wild.

When I was at Texas’ Baylor University in Waco, I marveled at the young Caltech graduate student from India who visited to witness the wedding of his sister Nivedita Sahu who was a classmate. Undoubtedly, he was a very brilliant and affable fellow. As I left Waco for Los Angeles, the director of the Department of Environmental Studies, a top national atmospheric physicist who additionally had a graduate degree in music, Dr. W. Merle Alexander told me that he routinely visited the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena at least once a year. Professor Alexander was to teach at Baylor for thirty years and was a long-term member of the Waco Symphony Orchestra whereby he played the french horn. Long before I knew about Californian genius Steve Jobs, Baylor had introduced me to directly facing and interacting with the computer world, in the dense network of Apple Macintosh computers all over the campus.

I took interest in the “Times Higher Education” World University rankings which were established in collaboration with a data provider generated by the same agency, with Thomas Reuters, and with expert information from over fifty leading persons in the field from fifteen nations across each of the continents. “Times Higher Education” regards itself as the golden yardstick in the field in the area of university performance comparison. Among the factors considered and weighed in ranking the universities were innovation, citations generated, volume and reputation of the researching, the teaching-learning environment, and the international outlook of the institutions. The institutions were ranked universally, and by region.

Here we are going to discuss about easy ways to do laptop data recovery in Perth.

Data recovery is the process of retrieving impassable data from damaged or debased secondary storage devices and removable files that cannot accessed in a traditional way. There is USB flash drive data recovery, external or internal hard disk drive data recovery, CDs and DVDs data recovery etc. This scenario evolves when there is an operating system failure, malfunctioning of internal or external storage device and accidental damage or deletion of files. Data corruption occurs due to physical damage to the storage drive or logical damage in the file system which prevents access to the data. Mechanical or physical damage to the storage drive will cause at least some data loss and also logical failure in the drive. If it occurs then users will have to take help from professionals for data recovery.

Usually companies providing data recovery due to physical damage have class 100 dust free room so that it does not get settled on bare disk drives. Logical damage is a software level damage which occurs due to partition errors in the file system or if the data gets overwritten. Repairing physical damage to disk drives and also data recovery from it are costly but there are many companies providing better and cheap deals.

DIY laptop data recovery

For logical damage to storage drive, the data remains intact in the drive but becomes impassable which can be recovered following the steps given below

Step 1: Purchase a hard disk drive enclosure online. Make sure that you purchase an enclosure according to the specification of your corrupted laptop. The enclosure turns the corrupted hard disk drive into an external storage device connected using an USB cable.

Step 2: Use a working computer which will be compatible with the operating system of your old laptop. For e.g.: if your damaged laptop is windows, then use a computer having windows operating system. Though Linux can also read data from windows still it’s better to stick to similar operating system.

Step 3: Unscrew your old laptop and locate the hard drive which is of the size of a 3.5 inch floppy drive. You can also look for the location of hard drive of your laptop model online.

Step 4: Connect the disk enclosure’s connector plate with your hard drive connector interface. Insert the disk drive inside the connector and screw it shut for enclosing.

Step 5: The new drive will automatically open on the working computer when it will be connected with the USB cable. A notification will pop up for windows users or an icon appears for Mac users. If it is not recognized, eject it and plug it back to the computer. For non readable hard drives, you will need professional assistance.

Step 6: Once you can open your external drive on the working computer, explore it and restore the files on the working computer or use the computer as a transfer device to transfer the file into another external storage device.

Step 7: After recovery of files from the storage drive, close the window and eject the drive.
